Biography

Muhammad Saalih al-Munajjid is a Palestinian Saudi Islamic scholar, born in 1960 in Palestinian refugees in Aleppo, Syria. In 1996, he founded one of the most popular Islamic fatwa websites and according to Alexa.com (2015) the world’s most popular Islamic website, IslamQA, where "All questions and answers on this site have been prepared, approved, revised, edited, amended or annotated by Shaykh Muhammad Saalih al-Munajjid, the supervisor of this site.". However, due to the fact that in Saudi Arabia, only the kingdom's Council of Senior Scholars has the sole responsibility and authority for issuing fatwas, Islam QA website was banned in the country because of the independent fatwas that were issued.

Muhammad grew up and studied in Saudi Arabia. He attended elementary school, middle and high school in Riyadh before moving to Dhahran where he pursued and completed his university studies. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in Dhahran, KSA. Before becoming the Imam at the Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz Mosque in the city of Al-Khobar (Saudi Arabia), he studied Islamic law under some well-known Islamic scholars such as Abd al-Aziz ibn Baaz, Muhammad ibn al Uthaymeen, Abdullah Ibn Jibreen, Saleh al-Fawzan and Abdul-Rahman al-Barrak. Al Jazeera considers him as a respected scholar in the Salafi movement.

He gives several Islamic lectures on Wednesdays and holds monthly classes in Riyadh and Jeddah. He has taught a number of classes, such as Sharh Sahih al-Bukhari, Fataawa Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah, Sharh Sunan at-Tirmidhi, Sharh Kitaab at-Tawheed by Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahab, Sharh ‘Umdat al-Ahkaam fi’l-Fiqh by al-Haafiz ‘Abd al-Ghani al-Maqdisi Sharh Kitaab Manhaj as-Saalikeen fi’l-Fiqh by Shaykh as-Sa‘di.

Along with his lectures, he has a number of videos and TV and radio shows like the one called Bayna an-Nabi sall-Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam wa Ashabihi, broadcasted on al-Qur’an al-Kareem radio station every Wednesday and repeated on Mondays. He has recorded more than 4500 audio hours since 1998.

Evidence of Hate Speech/Incitement:

March 2020: Al-Munajjid made a video talking about the fact that Covid-19 is a sentence for the non-Muslims. He said that Allah will not spare the kuffar (non-believers) not in the West and not in the East, not the Jews and not anyone else, that “Allah will tear them apart, destroy their economy and their countries” and it’s inevitable because they kill Muslims, they allow homosexuality and fornication and usury.

August 2018: In one of his TV shows, someone called to ask if it’s allowed to work in a Church. Muhammad answered by saying “No, because if you do so, you are helping them in their polytheism”.

May 2016: Sheikh Al-Munajid's statements on the Saudi Al-Majd TV channel: “The Jews are among the enemies of (Islam). In fact, they are at the top of the list. The Jews today are the Jews of the past. This requires no proof. Allah made their traits clear to us, and the Prophet Muhammad clarified that our war with them will continue until the end of time when they will be led by the Anti-Christ.”

September 2012: In a sermon, Muhammad said people who say that Churches should be built in Muslim countries the same way Mosques are built in Christian countries are “ignorant” and “hypocrites”. “we [Muslims] don't permit them [Western people] to build churches, even though they allow mosques to be built. You want to equate between right and wrong, between Islam and kufr [non-Islam], monotheism and shirk [polytheism], and gives to each side equal weight, and wants to compare this with that, and he asks: "Why don't we build them churches like they build us mosques? So we allow them this in return for that?" Do you want another other than Allah to be worshiped? Do you equate between right and wrong? Are Zoroastrian fire temples, Jewish temples, Christian churches, monks' monasteries, and Buddhist and Hindu temples, equal to you with the houses of Allah and mosques? So you compare this with that? And you equate this with that? Oh! Unbelievable, for he who equates between Islam and kufr [non-Islam]...” said Muhammad Saalih al-Munajjid.

In 2021, al-Munajjid talked about the “enemies” of the Ummah acting like evil who try to entertain Muslims during Ramadan to keep them away from God with TV shows and comedies during the Holy month.

Al-Munajjid appeared on a TV show talking about Jews and why they are succeeding during this century. He said that it’s just temporary as their souls are full of indignity, kufr and polytheism.
