Nicolas Blancho (Abu Ammar)
Biography
Nicolas Blancho, also known by his alias Abu Ammar, is a Swiss Islamic leader and a chairman of the Islamic Central Council of Switzerland (ICCS). Blancho converted to Islam at 16. He rose to notoriety in 2006 after organising a demonstration in the Swiss city of Bern against the Danish newspaper Jyllands Posten for publishing the controversial cartoons portraying the Prophet Muhammad.
Blancho is known for his radical religious beliefs that call for armed Jihad, anti-semitism and praising extremist terrorist groups such as Daesh. Nicolas Blancho holds a double discourse, he encourages individuals towards armed militancy, while his council - the ICCS rejects “jihad” and violence. Nicolas Blancho was in charge of producing interviews with leaders of a jihadist umbrella group and Jabhat al-Nusra, the former name for a Syria-based terrorist organisation aligned with Al-Qaeda. According to the ICCS, the videos were created to bring attention to a dangerous region, not to promote radicalisation. Nevertheless, Blancho was involved in radicalizing youth and transporting them to militant-controlled areas in Sinai, Egypt, for training camps.

Evidence of Hate Speech/Incitement:
May 2018: The Federal Criminal Court in Bellinzona accused Nicolas Blancho and two other members of the Swiss Islamic Central Council (CCIS) committee of broadcasting a propaganda video in support of Al Qaeda and associated groups. The video targeted young Westerners to travel to the Middle East and fight with terrorist Jihadist groups.
2014: Nicolas Blancho applied for authorization to purchase a SIG Sauer P226 handgun. However, his request was refused by police and military officials, as well as a Bern court. The Swiss Federal Tribunal stated that Blancho has failed to provide evidence that he is capable of safely owning a weapon, as well as having radical beliefs.
