Biography

Mirsad Omerovic, also known as Ebu Tejma is a former leader of a Bosnian terrorist cell in Vienna, Austria. He is currently imprisoned for 20 years on charges related to radicalising and recruiting individuals to join Daesh. In November 2014, he was arrested as part of a police operation against his Vienna-based terrorist cell. Two years later in July 2016, he was found guilty by an Austrian court of recruiting more than 160 militants for Daesh, including the two Austrian Daesh 'poster girls', who flew to lands controlled by the terrorist organisation in Iraq and Syria to be wedded to the group’s militants. Omerovic also called for attacks across central Europe and played a key role in disseminating ideas of violent Jihadist ideologies in German-speaking Europe. The Bosnian cell that Omerovic led was considered as one of the most important logistical and financial hubs for Daesh recruitment and funding efforts in central Europe.

Despite being currently imprisoned, Omerovic likey remains a threat behind bars due to his contacts in the outside world, and his potential ability to continue spreading extremist Salafist material, recruitment, and even fundraising.

Evidence of Hate Speech/Incitement:

April 2014: Mirsad Omerovic recruited two Austrian girls, Sabina Selimovic and Samra Kesinovic as Daesh poster girls at the height of the terrorist organisaton’s military advances through Syria and Iraq. At that time, Sabina Selimovic was 15 years old and Samra Kesinovic was 16, both of them left Austria and went to Syria to join Daesh. The girls stated that they visited the Altun-Alem mosque, where Omerovic was known to preach. Daesh used pictures of Selimovic and Kesinovic in their PR campaign to attract further fighters. However, 16-year old Kesinovic was later tortured to death by Daesh after attempting to leave the group's stronghold in Raqqa, Syria.
