Mohamed Al Saghir Abdulrahim Mohamed
Biography
Mohamed Al Saghir is an Egyptian preacher living in Qatar. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, an influential Muslim Brotherhood international organisation headed by Youcef Al Qaradawi. Al Saghir held several government positions during the short political rule of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt (2012-2013).
In 2012, he was appointed as the Secretary General of the Religious Committee in the Islamist-dominated Parliament. A year after, Al Saghir was then appointed as an advisor to the Minister of Endowments Talaat Afifi in 2013. Following the removal of President Mohamed Morsi from power, Al Saghir fled to Qatar and has been issuing several Fatwas calling Egyptians to get rid of the rule of President Abdul Fattah Al Sisi.
In February 2017, Mohammed was a featured guest at a Gama Islamiyya event in Qatar mourning the death of their leader Omar Abdel Rahman. The same year, Al Saghir was designated as a supporter of terrorism in a joint list issued by Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, and Bahrain. He is also an associate of US-sanctioned al-Qaida leaders Mohammed Shawqi Islambouli and Rifai Ahmed Taha.
In Qatar, he has featured as a speaker at events hosted by Eid Charity and RAF Foundation, a foundation known to be a firm supporter and a funder for Syrian armed groups and a host for Al-Qaeda supporters. Al Saghir is a frequent guest on Aljazeera, Qatar’s state-funded TV channel.
